Change Management: why it's important
Learning, in any form, is fundamentally about effecting change:
change in skills, knowledge, values and attitudes. Since the advent
of the PC enterprises in both the private and public sectors have had
to get used to an environment of of almost constant change. In the past,
one of the drivers for this was technology. Now, it's the other way
around, and change is being enabled by technology. eLearning is a case in point.
However, eLearning is a problem. As business initiatives go,
it has not been the most successful on the block, with some 60% of UK
eLearning users reporting dissatisfaction or outright failure in their
aims. Why? Lots of reasons, but one of the most telling is that eLearning
has not been seen specifically as a mechanism for change and consequently,
it has not been managed as such.

"Change Management and eLearning: the Challenge" is based on original
research, and contains case studies including Rolls-Royce Training &
Development, University for Lloyds TSB, IDeA and Somerfield Group.
The aim of the paper is to draw out these issues, explore the relationship
between change management and eLearning, and offer a new model for
approaching the subject. |
